GL events Field & Lawn Limited created a three-storey media centre for the regional reporters covering the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Already an official Overlay and Temporary Structures Provider for the Games, GL events UK created a bespoke media hub that was used throughout the 12-day event.

Built around a modular system that fuses six hi-cube corrugated steel modules together, each floor offered around 60 square metres of floor space.

The modules have been fabricated to a bespoke design to suit the very specific requirements of Network News and the staff of Nations and Regions, incorporating a huge glazed front façade so reporters get the best view of some of Glasgow’s iconic landmarks.

Internally, each studio has been fitted out to a very high specification, including acoustic partitioning throughout for the best sound quality as the latest news is fed back to TV and radio stations around Scotland and the rest of the UK. An automatic comfort cooling system has also been installed to deal with the significant heat produced by the audio-visual equipment it is housing.

In terms of access, each floor is externally accessible via a bespoke tower staircase structure, and is supplemented with an external lift to ensure that every level is fully accessible.

Scott Hayward, Managing Director of GL events UK, said: “This has been a fascinating project to work on given the ratio of the space available for the build and the number of reporters it will need to house. The end result was a fantastic studio facility that will give viewers a great insight into the action.”

GL events Field & Lawn Limited is a joint venture between worldwide event solutions company GL Events and Scottish-based marquee hire company Field & Lawn Limited. The two companies have worked together on many high-profile projects including the London 2012 Olympics and other major sporting events.
