GL events Seating and Stadia has supplied state-of-the-art seating at a £6million sports complex that is being developed in Caerphilly, South Wales.

Constructed on the site of the old Ystrad Mynach Hospital, the new Ystrad Mynach Sports Centre of Excellence will have all-weather rugby and football pitches, grandstands and floodlights as well as parking for 200 cars when it opens in the summer. There will also be a gym, changing rooms, sports classrooms and conferencing facilities.

Over 1,000 new tip up seats have been installed across six stands in the new grandstands. This custom-engineered tiered seating is the most aesthetically pleasing and comfortable on the market according to GL events Seating and Stadia Operations Director Chris Mansell.

“We’ve used the Box Seat for this project, which are perfectly aligned foldaway seats that leave the gangways and access points clear giving spectators more leg room,” explains Chris. “They also have a higher back rest making it more comfortable it sit on through the longer events. The seats also have UV protection to avoid the colour fading and are extremely durable so they will last a long time and stand frequent use.”

Professional and community teams will be able to use the new complex with Rugby Union’s Newport Gwent Dragons using it as their new training base.
