Olympics and athletic events
The global strength of GL events as a deliverer of infrastructure for international sporting events makes it well placed to deliver solutions for events on such a massive scale that would leave other providers standing. Our track record in delivering temporary Olympic structures for both the Olympics and Commonwealth games is a testament to both the quality of GL events’ products and services and our ability to deliver solutions on a grand scale.
Temporary Olympic stadium
In 2012, the GL events Consortium designed, manufactured and installed around 166,000 sq metres of temporary Olympic structures across 78 venues at both the Olympics and Paralympics Games, performing a wide range of functions including merchandise stalls, ticket offices, athletes’ quiet rooms and security posts.
We also installed 130,000 temporary seats at 13 Olympic venues and stadia including the Olympic Basketball Arena, the Riverbank Arena, BMX Track, Greenwich Park, and Lord’s Cricket Club, which hosted the archery events.
Former Olympic venues
Our international delivery has been highlighted further at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the 2016 UEFA European Championships in France, and most recently Olympic structures for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
GL events supported the Glasgow Commonwealth Games by bolstering spectator facilities with temporary structures to ensure the delivery of a safe, enjoyable and well-organised Games. We created 33,000 sq metres of temporary space at seven venues, including a temporary outdoor broadcast suite, built over three storeys and offering over 60sqm of floor space on each floor. Each studio was fitted out to the highest of specifications, including acoustic partitioning and an automatic comfort cooling system.
