GL events UK partnered with British Marine to create Southampton International Boat Show’s Quarterdeck Club facility. As part of a new three-year contract, the event infrastructure specialist was commissioned to design and install the bespoke, open-plan dining suite, enabling organisers to deliver a relaxed, premium dining experience for event-goers.

GL events delivered a range of diverse design concepts, allowing the team at British Marine to commission a carefully customised temporary environment. This would take full advantage of the temporary venue’s premium quayside location, allowing the Boat Show team to operate at maximum efficiency by offering fantastic comfort and outstanding views in all possible weather conditions.

Smart features of the branded, furnished and smartly decorated temporary structure included 4m-high panels throughout, along with sliding electric glass doors that maximised light, creating an enticing space and bringing views of Europe’s largest purpose-built show marina into the event.

A decked, part-covered terrace and newly designed glass handrails created a safe, premium environment quay-side; while a turfed area to the front of the suite offered additional space for visitors to enjoy refreshments. A bar spanned the interior and terraced space while a system of individually curtained bays meant that shelter from the elements could be quickly incorporated into the space in the event of inclement weather.

“It was great to work with GL events on this project. The Quarterdeck Club was installed in just three days and raised the bar in terms of socialising and dining options available to our guests. This meant they could enjoy a truly special day, along with a world-class view,” commented Daniel Taylor, Head of Boat Show Operations at British Marine.

“We’ve spotted a definite trend toward premium event experiences, and this only grows for international spectaculars like the Southampton International Boat Show,” commented Scott Jameson, GL events UK Group Managing Director. “This discerning audience is looking for the very best, especially within break-out areas like the Quarterdeck Club. We’ve developed structures and internal fit-outs to meet these high expectations and are delighted that we’ll be working with the show’s organisers to deliver their vision for three years.”

The Southampton International Boat Show took place at Mayflower Park, Southampton 13-22nd September.
