GL events champions legacy in new partnership with UCB

GL events UK has developed a new partnership with University College Birmingham (UCB) to create an ‘advanced legacy’, allowing GL to play an active role in educating and informing the event professionals of tomorrow. The agreement is part of the company’s Pay it Forward initiative, which aims to create positive legacies in its local communities, allowing the company and its people to ‘give back’ in a meaningful way.

The partnership with UCB, a leading provider of higher education events management degrees, will see senior leadership figures within GL events providing input into the shaping of course content, and sharing knowledge and experience with final year students in the classroom. The company will also provide on-site experience opportunities for students across its portfolio of major sporting and cultural event collaborations, as part of its commitment to giving the next generation of event professionals hands-on experience, skills and insight.

Scott Jameson, GL events UK Group Managing Director, commented: “As a major player in the global events industry, we have a duty of care to help nurture the next generation of event professionals. Our team, clients and partners have so much experience and we are keen to communicate this while adding additional practical value to the students we work with.

“Legacy and community engagement is something that GL events has always supported strongly, especially as part of our delivery of major projects, where the creation of lasting benefits is so important. We have worked with universities and colleges in the past, and are taking it to the next logical step.”

GL events worked with universities ahead of the Glasgow European Championships in 2018, giving students work experience opportunities throughout the games that led to additional support for organisers.

“Events management graduates in particular need experience to stand out to employers in the sector. This initiative allows us to enhance students’ experience and employability on a broad scale, with the added incentive for students to be a part of a major global sporting event,” concluded Jameson.

This partnership will serve to engage our students further into the real world of events work, giving them access to the minds of industry leaders at GL events UK.”
