GL events UK once again raised the bar as the temporary infrastructure partner behind summer’s most exhilarating motorsport events. The event specialist’s action-packed season included all manner of sporting contests, from golf, to show jumping, cricket and athletics. Premium temporary structures, arenas, grandstands and complete overlay solutions made a stunning impression, creating lasting memories of quality events for stakeholders throughout the UK and Europe.

As usual, GL events UK’s project teams attended exciting and iconic summertime motorsports events including The British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit, and the glorious Goodwood Festival of Speed. GL events UK project manager, Tom Alldread, manages both accounts, and explains: “It’s a privilege to partner with the excellent teams behind some of the world’s best-loved motorsport events.

“GL events UK has supplied temporary structures across Goodwood Festival of Speed since its inception in 2003. As long-term, contracted partners, we enjoy a fantastic relationship with the team at Goodwood. Our role is to install the fundamental event infrastructure – nearly 6,000sqm of temporary structures around which our client creates the festival, innovating and creating new concepts every year.

“With lots of activity on site, and tight build and clear times to deliver, preservation of the beautiful estate is essential. Our success is down to experience, collaboration and communication; not only with the client, but with all suppliers on site. The strength of our relationships means that GL events can ensure smooth, timely and sensitive operations on behalf of our partners.

GL events UK has supplied hospitality suites and supporting event infrastructure to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone since 1950. In recent years, this has involved more than 20 temporary structures, spanning more than 17,000sqm. Key venues created include the three main hospitality areas, Club Six and the Drivers’ lounge built for Silverstone itself. We additionally install The British Racing Drivers Club facilities, creating two distinct areas of their members, as well as a wide range of general admission, catering and bar areas, administrative and staff welfare facilities.

Tom Alldread continues: “As you’d expect with such a long-standing partnership, significant challenges are extremely rare. Every year, we enjoy the opportunity to support the development of premium visitor experience and, for 2019, our solution included upgraded venues, re-designed configurations, and enhanced general public facilities in a collaboration that was well received by all involved.”

Alex Lacey, Operations Director at Silverstone Circuits Limited, added: “Every year we build on the quality of experience and hospitality delivered, so we can surpass the expectations of our spectators. To do this, we need strong buy-in from our partners, asking them to push the levels of quality and innovation. GL events are no exception and we’ve enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership. It’s great that we’ve secured an agreement to keep F1 coming back to Silverstone until 2024. A large part of this is our ability to create an outstanding experience for spectators, sponsors, and teams. It’s something we do exceptionally well and we’re looking forward to pushing things forward again next year and beyond.”
