Boreham Wood Football Club – stand replacement

The football club desperately needed to replace its existing concrete standing terrace, which was heavily ridden with asbestos material, however revenue was limited to only spend money from its Football Foundation funding.

The works were procured under a JCT Design and Build Contract and the construction phase commenced in 2012.  GL events UK designed and delivered a solution that was within-budget and exceeding the club’s aesthetic requirements, while satisfying all of the necessary regulations.

The old stand was demolished and a new 900-capacity seated stand was created on piled foundations.  The design used a variant of the hybrid system, constructing the principle structure from steel, based on unique steel helical piles, or screw piles.

The new stand features ancillary toilet facilities and food-bar buildings and, thanks to the cost-effective nature of the solution, the club was able to have its preferred profiled steel chequer-plate seating deck installed.
