For the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, our teams installed two 6,000-seat stands on the upper part of the existing stands. They were set up in just three months to be ready to host the World Cup final at Eden Park Stadium.

Record breaking

At a towering 31m tall, this landmark project was the tallest temporary tiered seating grandstand ever built. Furthermore, their construction took just ten weeks.

The seats, which were new when erected at Eden Park, ensured the venue had a capacity of 60,000 – an IRB requirement for stadia hosting major World Cup matches. The stadium went on to host 11 games during the tournament, including both semi-finals, the third-place match between Wales and Australia, and the nail-biting final.

Less than 24 hours after the All Blacks’ famous victory over France to win the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Eden Park’s temporary seating was already being dismantled for a new home in London. We provided in excess of 10,000 temporary seats, which were subsequently transported halfway around the world. Excitingly, these were then readied to host fans at the London 2012 Olympics the following year.

Testimonial

The capacity of the park is appropriate for the events we normally stage, but the Rugby World Cup is a unique event.
