GL events has launched a cross-industry research project on sustainability within UK events as part of its partnership with the Event Production Show later this month. The initiative is the result of the company’s observation of a growing agenda of sustainability, particularly among its corporate customers and throughout the event production supply chain.
The aim of the research is to better understand the status of sustainability on event organisers’ agendas. It will also aim to ascertain the sources of the pressures and motivations to address sustainably issues, and the values of individuals and businesses. Finally, the research will gauge whether sustainability is rising, falling, or otherwise on the industry’s agenda.
“This is a really important piece of research, not least among our corporate customers,” commented Rachel Baker, GL events UK Group Marketing Manager. “Sustainability matters increasingly occupy a more prominent and specific role in our clients’ briefs and invitations to tender. The topic is clearly much more than a box ticking exercise.”
“For us, and for many of our clients, sustainability has always been on the agenda and we see amazing sustainable events taking place every day. But sustainability can play an ambivalent role in our industry, especially in a tough economy. One of the things we want to establish through this research is an understanding of the commitment, long term, that the industry is prepared to invest in its own sustainability.”
GL events will survey opinions from throughout the industry in the run up to Event Production Show, where it will canvas opinion among visitors to its stand. Following the show, the company will publish a white paper, sharing the findings of its research in order to advance the wider industry discussion.
