The inaugural FIA Formula E Championship is definitely picking up speed after the third round which took place in Uruguay at the weekend.

Leaving the rain and humidity of Malaysia behind, the teams headed to Punte del Este, South America’s Riviera to compete on the 2.8km circuit running through the picturesque harbour district.

The race was enjoyed by a sell-out crowd with 10,000 fans filling the grandstands and many more cheering from the nearby balcony of the GL events Double Deck 20m x 40m Absolute Eclipse structure built for the EMOTION Club, the exclusive hospitality area, designed and built by GL events.

GL events also created bespoke infrastructure for the pit garages, race control, media centre and TV compound structures, as well as temporary office space, all of which lined the beaches of the city and resort known as the Monaco of South America.

The location that creates a unique flair for the teams posed a true challenge to the drivers: sand on the track that is blown onto the tarmac from the beach that is just 20 metres away. Combined with the tight configuration, this circuit requires their full concentration but Sebastien Buemi drove a controlled race to record e.Dams Renault’s first FIA Formula E win.

GL events are looking ahead to the next round which is set to take place on January 10 in Buenos Aires, before another two-month break that precedes the US rounds in Miami and then Long Beach before returning to Europe for races in Monaco, Berlin and London.
